Microbiome Testing - Explore your Gut Bacteria

What is Microbiome Testing

Our Gut is home to millions of bacteria and other microorganisms. In fact some studies have suggested that the number of bacterial cells in our body might outnumber our own cells by a factor of 10-1 ! We literally have more 200grams of bacteria living inside our gut.

Our gut microbes perform many important tasks such as

  • balancing inflammation in the body

  • producing important vitamins and neurotransmitters that influence our mood and health

  • producing substances that feed our intestinal cells and inhibit harmful microorganisms

  • regulating the movement of the bowels

Imbalances in our gut microbes has been linked to a myriad of health issues including:

  • Diabetes

  • Cardiovascular disease

  • Obesity

  • Anxiety and Depression

  • Autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease

Microbiome testing uses metagenomic sequencing to analyse the types of microorganisms in your gut, the metabolites they produce and consume, and the implications this might have for your overall health and what foods and fibers you should be consuming.
